Biography
British-born tenor Stephen Chambers grew up in New Zealand, where he studied at the University of Otago, NZ. He proceeded to study in the United States at The Boston Conservatory, and at the RCS in Scotland.

After being a member of the opera studio at the Berlin Staatsoper from 2013 to 2015, he joined the ensemble at the Landestheater Detmold, Germany.
In the current season (2022/23) he makes his role debuts as Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, & Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Landestheater Detmold. He will also sing in the Gala concerts "Freunde das Leben ist Lebenswert", and reprises the role of Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos.
Mr. Chambers was supported by the Liz Mohn Musikstiftung (2013-15), awarded the ABRSM International postgraduate Scholarship, was in the Bregenzer festspiele Opernstudio, is a Samling Artist, and he attended the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme (Bach Johannes Passion with Mark Padmore), Festival d’Aix en Provence académie, and was also supported by the Sir James Caird’s Travelling Scholarships Trust.
In 2013 Stephen Chambers won 2nd prize in the Veronica Dunne International Competition, Dublin (as well as best Male competitor and Best Handel prizes) & 2nd place in the London Handel Competition. In previous years he has been a winner of the Ye Cronies Opera Aria (RCS, Scotland), Wellington Regional Aria (NZ), Nelson Sealord Aria (NZ), & Dunedin ODT Aria (NZ).
Stephen Chambers studied with Judy Bellingham and Isabel Cunningham (The University of Otago); Dr. Rebecca Folsom (The Boston Conservatory); Stephen Robertson (RCS); Dennis O’Neill (WIAV, Cardiff). He worked with the late James McCray & now studies with Frank Van Aaken.
